Skin and Rocks
Skin and Rocks

I finally managed to get my ancient, non XP scanner working on my machine again, so here are some more photos from that beautiful album - long overdue.

Marianne and the Water
Marianne and the Water
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
Marianne is back. The haitus (I haven't posted a photo from the album since November) coincided, appropriately enough, with a couple of pages of missing photos in the album, sadly. From what precedes and follows this photo, I think this was taken in Sweden.

Famille Lundgren
Famille Lundgren
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
One of my personal favourites from the marchedesvances album - the quirky angle, the chiaroscuro, the light leaks and the slightly awkward poses of the subjects caught my attention immediately.
The photo is simply labelled 'Famille Lundgren'.

11, Rue Jullien
11, Rue Jullien
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
The Sjostrand family, looking happy.
On the back of this photo is written: "Julen 1946". Underneath, "Sjostrand. 11 Rue Jullien. Vanves, Seine."
That's what it looks like, at least, and it would make some sense as the Marche des Vances is near the Porte de Vanves metro stop.
This has what looks like Christmas decorations and daffodils, while the previous photo has what appears to be a nativity scene. I'm reliably informed that "Julen" is, contrary to my original belief, not the Swedish for July but actually means Christmas. Which makes a lot more sense.

Family Sjostrand
Family Sjostrand
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
This is, presumably, one of the families that Marianne met or stayed with while in Sweden. This photo is marked on the back with the name of the family - Sjostrand, it looks like.
I was out having a coffee yesterday afternoon and a girl came in who was - at least for a brief second - Marianne's doppelganger. But from a different angle the resemblance vanished.
edit: as with the entry from Oct 25th, this photo is dated Christmas 1946 and not June or July as previously stated. The nativity scene should have been a clue, I know! I also doubt that the family lived in Sweden, owing to the more decipherable address on the second photo.

Attention
Attention
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
No prizes for guessing the focus of attention here, and it isn't the beautiful panoramic view over Paris.
What about that body language though? His is easy enough to read, but she has her right arm across him like a barrier.
Thanks to fliegender for indentifying the location in the previous entry as the pont neuf: as much as I love Paris, I'm very far from being sufficiently knowledgeable to identify where many of these shots were taken, so I certainly appreciate the help.

Carin in the Street
Carin in the Street
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
Carin - with obvious contrasts to the last photo I posted from the album, of Margareta, not least in that Carin's looking away from the camera. She looks in a hurry to get somewhere.

Margareta on the Rocks
Margareta on the Rocks
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
Contrasts: the differences between Margareta and her sister Carin couldn't be much clearer.
Most obviously, one is blonde and the other brunette. Less superficially, Margareta seems more interested in the attention of others and in the camera than Carin.

Luis de Moureal
Luis de Moureal
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
Originally, I'd described this according to how it was labelled in the album - that the woman here is Carin. But looking at it, I'm pretty sure it's not Carin. She looks like Margareta and she's wearing the same clothes as Margareta. So is it really Luis? I suspect the photos may have been switched in the album.

Margareta
Margareta
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
This is Margareta, Carin's sister.
When I picked up this album, this was the first photo that captured my attention - it had time and place encapsulated. And that smile leaped out.
But now, strangely, I'm more intrigued by Carin and the last photo I posted from the album. She's inscrutable.
Above this photo in the album, Marianne has written: "Yves Menard* - Ma".
*I can't be sure about the spelling of the surname.

Family II
Family II
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
It's not original - but for convenience, I'm going to refer to the young woman featured in the first photograph as Marianne.
Another group portrait of the Swedish family that Marianne went to stay with in 1947.
I think she must have set the camera on self timer as this appears to be the whole family. I can just imagine her dashing back behind the armchair.
Although the large mark at the top of the frame could be removed with a bit of work on Photoshop, I'd rather leave it in, for authenticity.

Introduction
Introduction
Originally uploaded by teotwawki.
In Paris last month, I paid a trip to the Marché des Vances on the basis that it had quite a good reputation for interesting photographs.
After a lot of searching and many disappointments, I found a photo album that I took an instant liking to, and I've set up this blog to document it.
This is a photo of the young French woman whose album it was, and who took most of the photos.
What I love so much about the album will, I hope, become clear as I post more over the coming weeks.
Of course, if you have any information about the woman in the photo, or in the future about any of the photos from the album, I would really love to hear from you.
